Getty Museum Seeks Volunteer Guides to Lead Tours

Applications are due Jan. 4 for vacant tour guide positions at the Getty Villa in Pacific Palisades and the Getty Center in Brentwood.

The J. Paul Getty Museum is recruiting volunteer docents to lead gallery tours at both the Getty Villa in Pacific Palisades and the Getty Center in Brentwood. Applications are due by 5 p.m. on Jan. 4, 2013.

Gallery docents lead tours of the permanent collection and special exhibitions for both K-12 student groups and the general public, according to a Getty Center press release. K-12 tours are offered during the week, focusing on thoughtful discussions about works of art, geared to students at a variety of levels. Daily tours for the general public focus on highlights, themes and areas of the collection and special exhibitions, and are offered on weekends as well as weekdays.

Docents work one four-hour shift each week or every other weekend, and commit to a rigorous period of training before beginning work in the galleries.
