Coral Tree Down on San Vicente Boulevard

Historic tree falls across a lane of traffic on the busy street.

One of Brentwood's famed coral trees fell onto San Vicente Boulevard Thursday, blocking a lane of traffic on the busy street.

According to Nancy Freedman, Chair of the Brentwood Community Council Board, the tree is No. 15 on median No. 3. It's at the corner of San Vicente Boulevard and Gorham Avenue, across from the Starbucks coffee shop at 11707 San Vicente Blvd.

Coral trees are native to Africa and are extremely drought tolerant. Wet conditions and over-watering make them more prone to failure. Trees have fallen before on the median and local efforts continue to maintain the trees.

Freedman, in an email to Patch, wrote that she observed a pool of water from the sprinkler system next to the fallen tree.
