The Eastern Star Gallery at Archer Kicks Off The School Year with Tierney Gearon's "PRIVATE PRINCESS" Exhibition

On Thursday, October 10th, the newly renamed Eastern Star Gallery, located on the historic campus of The Archer School for Girl in Los Angeles, kicked off its 2013-2014 school year with an exhibition of new work from Los Angeles-based photographer Tierney Gearon which will be on view by appointment until November 9th. The "Private Princess" exhibition features a selection of different bodies of work, including "COLOR SHAPE," "EXPLOSURE," and photographs from Gearon's newly released, "Alphabet Book." Self-taught photographer Tierney Gearon exploded onto the art scene in 2001 with her “I am a Camera” exhibition at Charles Saatchi’s gallery in London. Since her controversial debut, Gearon has pushed the envelope of contemporary photography. “The Mother Project” and “Daddy, where are you?” offered an intimate look into Gearon’s relationship with her mentally ill mother, capturing the raw intensity of the family dynamic and celebrating the artist’s free spirit. In 2009, Gearon pushed her photography to new heights, double-exposing film inside the camera to produce groundbreaking chance narratives in “EXPLOSURE.” In December 2012, Gearon photographed 13 Oscar Award winning actresses for a series titled “Hollywood Heroines,” which was published in the New York Times Magazine.  “For this show, the class and I chose a selection of current images of two different bodies of work that I have been working on simultaneously,” comments Gearon. “Both of these projects have been a huge friend-family collaboration, so it is fitting that “COLOR SHAPE” will preview at Archer.” Gearon’s photography has been exhibited at many prominent galleries and museums worldwide, including Gagosian Gallery, Yossi Milo, Ace Gallery, The Parrish Art Museum, Scottish National Portrait Gallery, and Phillips de Pury & Company in London. A preview of her “COLOR SHAPE” images was on display at Paris Photo and Los Angeles Photography Art Fair earlier this year. Her children's photography art book, “Alphabet Book,” will be published in fall 2013 by Damiani.   Gearon’s “PRIVATE PRINCESS” exhibit will be on public view at the Eastern Star Gallery at Archer, by appointment until November 9, 2013. The Archer School for Girls is located at 11725 Sunset Boulevard, Los Angeles, CA 90049.
