The uniquely compelling format of the conference challenges students to create a cross-disciplinary presentation, merging literary content with work based on other areas of interest. For instance, entrants may develop a piece of creative writing or literary analysis in tandem with a corresponding study of media, communications, science, technology, mathematics, history, sociology, culture, philosophy or any area of the arts. Past presentation titles include “The Underlying Sanity of Insanity: King Lear and Caberet,” and “Sympathy for the Devil: The Antihero in Literature and Rock and Roll.”

Presentations should be between 8-10 minutes long and may incorporate images, music, and/or video. All submissions must be emailed to Conference Coordinator Kristin Taylor (ktaylor@archer.org) by January 24, 2014. Students should include their complete name, school, and name and email address of their English teacher. Final presenters will be announced by February 10, 2014. Archer Head of School Elizabeth English  comments, “For anyone who wants reassurance that the Millennials, sometimes known as ‘Generation Me’ care about the world of ideas, art, and politics, Archer's Literature & Conference is the place to be. Archer girls and other intellectual students from across the city come together in this modern day literary salon to explore the intersection of literature and popular culture.  What makes this conference unique is that it is entirely student run, and students find an authentic audience in one another. It's completely inspiring."
