Take it to the Park: Improve your health and your community

Need more motivation to move, groove and play in the great outdoors this summer? How about a chance to improve your favorite park?

For the fourth year in a row, Coca-Cola is issuing a challenge to all Americans to “Take It To The Park” as part of the America Is Your Park campaign. It’s a push to get active and vote to help your favorite park win up to $100,000 for improvements. This is fantastic! It’s a win for you and a win for your community.

The joys of being physically active extend well beyond the achievement or maintenance of a healthy weight or reducing your disease risk. Physical activity stimulates various brain chemicals that may leave you feeling happier and more relaxed. And this can boost your confidence and improve your self-esteem and thus your energy to do all your daily activities.

When you move more, you look and feel better.  You stand taller. You have more patience, less stress, better sleep habits and more fun. And this summer, getting active also means your park gets more votes toward winning the title of “America’s Favorite Park.”

This year, you can turn activity into more voting power by “checking in” via foursquare from the park or logging your fitness activities using MapMyFitness. As an additional bonus, votes will be doubled during the last weekend of voting (July 13 and 14).

I provide nutritional and exercise consultation to Coca-Cola and learned of this campaign as part of the company’s recent commitment to inspire 3 million people to rediscover the joy of being active. And what better place to get you and your family and friends moving than in the park?
