MTA Approves Bus Lanes on Wilshire

The plan will now go to the City Council's Transportation Committee.

The Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority on Thursday approved 7.7 mile long bus-only lanes on Wilshire Boulevard to run through Brentwood.

Known as the Wilshire Bus Rapid Transit project, it will connect MacArthur Park and West LA.

The plan has been well received by public transit advocacy groups and environmentalists but some Brentwood residents, including members of the Brentwood Community Council, are against the plan. L.A. City Councilman Bill Rosendahl, who represents most of West L.A. including Brentwood, has also voiced his opposition to putting the bus lanes in the West LA area.

Next up, the project will go through the City Council's Transportation Committee in the first week of June.

After that, the issue will be discussed at a full City Council meeting, the date of which has yet to be set.

If the plan is passed by the City Council, construction is expected to begin in mid-2013.
