Motorcycle Ride Aims to Raise Funds for Veterans

The ride will be held on the 10-year anniversary of 9/11 and is the first fundraiser ever held to benefit the Veterans Home of California.

A benefit motorcycle ride will be held on the tenth anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks to raise funds for the Veterans Home of California in West Los Angeles.

The ride is meant to honor the heroes and victims of the Sept. 11 tragedies and to benefit one of the largest veteran homes in Los Angeles County, according to a statement from the California Department of Veterans Affairs.

“This will be a wonderful way to remember those men and women in the U.S. Military who sacrifice so much for us everyday and to honor those men and women who died on that fateful September day 10 years ago,” said Peter J. Gravett, secretary of the California Department of Veterans Affairs, in a press release.

Proceeds from the event will go toward the welfare and recreation fund provided to Veterans Home residents, as well as to purchase items such as boardgames, computers, recreational equipment, trips and movie, theater or sporting events tickets, plus more.

The event, which is the first fundraiser to be held for the Veterans Home of California, is sponsored by Barger and Barterls Harley-Davidson dealerships and the West Hog Chapter, as well as other participants.

Besides the ride, which will kick off at Barger Harley Davidson located at 22107 Sherman Way in Canoga Park, activities include a patriotic program, flag ceremony, vendors, music, food, raffles and special appearances by celebrities. Also, commemorative t-shirts, caps and pins will be for sale.

“This benefit ride on Patriot Day is not only a motorcycle ride, but is open to the public for anyone who wishes to honor and help our Veterans and the new Veterans Home of California in West Los Angeles,” said Loretta Hanson, owner of Barger Harley-Davidson co-sponsor of the event, in statement. “A $25 entry fee (for rider pre-registrations or ride-ins or walk-ins) is a donation to the Veterans Home. All donations are appreciated and all raffle proceeds are donated to the Home. Please join us and help our Veterans and honor 9/11.”
