Five Things You Need to Know

On this Memorial Day, honor veterans at the National Cemetery or participate in a walk/run for warriors.

1. Gather at the Los Angeles National Cemetery for a Memorial Day ceremony honoring the 14 Medal of Honor recipients buried there. Retired Army Maj. Gen. John T. Crowe will make the keynote address.

Actors Bruce Boxleitner, Robert Davi, David James Elliott, Martin Kove, Kyle Massey, Gerald McRaney and Lee Purcell will also take part in the ceremony.

The program begins at 10:30 a.m. and includes a performance by the U.S. Marine Corps Band and flyovers by aircraft from the California Air National Guard and March Air Reserve Base.

2. Take part in the Walk for Warriors sponsored by the West Los Angeles Chamber of Commerce. The walk benefits New Directions, a nonprofit agency that assists veterans in transitioning back into family and community. Participants will gather at VA building 116 on the West L.A. Veterans Affairs Campus at 11303 Wilshire Blvd. The 5K run begins at 8:30 a.m. and the 5K walk begins at 9 a.m. Registration is $45 for adults and $20 for children. 3. Today marks the final day of the 25th annual JazzReggae Festival at UCLA. Held every Memorial Day weekend, the festival celebrates music, culture and community. Entirely student produced and run, the festival is the largest of its kind on the West Coast. The festival runs from noon to 7 p.m. on the UCLA campus’ Intramural Field. Tickets cost $35 for a single day.

4. The Skirball off-ramp from the 405 will be closed today from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. and again from 7 p.m.-6 a.m. due to the Skirball bridge reconstruction project.
